Felon

Felon was rescued from Avenal State Prison about a month back.  Felon was on his death bed. When I got him to Abby Vet Hospital I didnt think he would even make the drive of 88miles from Avenal Prison to Abby Pet Hospital.  When I got to Abby Pet Hospital they were waitting for felon.  Dr. Brewer that cares for the Avenal State Prison cats.  Didn't  give Felon much hope at all.  Felon couldn't even hold up his head. He just kept falling over to one side when we tried to sit him up. He was nothing but bones. They began given him shots and lots of medication's to try and  help him.   Dr. Brewer just kept telling me not much hope for little guy. But he had a strong will to fight for his life. That's what amazed us all at the time.  Angel one of the staff at Abby Pet Hospital stood watching all the work going into the unnamed cat at the time. Just a little ball of black fur laying on the table fighting for his life. Angel couldn't  help her self she went over to the little black ball of fur and picked him up.  Angel looked at me and asked may I have him and try to help him fight for his life.  I replied of course you can. Angel took the little black ball of fur home.  With very little hope that he would make it home with her that day or pass away on the ride home.

Today about three weeks later I was at Abby Pet Hospital with another cat from Avenal State Prison. I spoke with Angel about the little black ball of fur.  I expected her to tell me that he passed away. I was surprized when she told me that when she was driving home that day. Several times she would reach over to him and shake him thinking he had passed away. But after alot of work and medication now named Felon is a house cat and runs all over the house. Angel shared with me the photo of Felon above.  What a happy story that could of been a very sad one.

Thank you so much Angel for finding it in your heart to reach out to Felon and love him and help him fight for his life. Angel you are amazing lady to help Felon fight for his life. Now he has a very special and happy home to live out his life.  He will never be treated so badly as he was at Avenal State Prison. Now he has someone that cares about him.

When we get more photos of Felon from Angel we will be posting more updates on him.

Three New Born Kittens

At the end of May I went out to the prison to check out some of the rumors I was hearing regarding the feral cats on prison grounds.  I was approached right away by the prison pest control personal.   Someone that I have had several run in with over trapping of the feral cats on prison grounds. He handed me a box closed. I asked what was inside the box. He replied when I heard you were coming on grounds I went out and got these kittens from their mom.   I was shocked and speachless at the time. That anyone would take three new born kittens from a mom that was taken care of them. Of course him and I went around about taken these kittens from the mom. I asked that they be returned to the mom. He refused to return them back to the mommie cat.  After leaving prison grounds. I took the kittens to Abby Pet Hospital so that Dr. Brewer could check out the kittens.  While I was at Abby Pet Hospital one of the staff (Kim) offered to take the kittens and care for them and when the kittens were old enough they would be placed into loving homes.  I spoke with Kim at Abby Pet Hospital a few weeks ago and she informed me that all three of the kittens have been placed into loving homes.  If is speical people like Kim that reach out to help us in a time of need for a cat or kittens that helps us to keep saving the lifes of these feral cats on prison grounds.  Thank you so much Kim for your kindness.

MILO

If you look at the bottom left side photo you will see the broken leg turned under

Just a few days ago. I got a cat from Avenal Prison that had what appeared to be a front broken leg. He is just a little kitten.  He had head injury from being in the trap and trying to free himself from the trap.  For how long he had been in the trap I have no idea.  For this is a pattern that the prison does when they trap a cat and leave them in a trap for days. I called Abby Pet Hospital and had them inform Dr. Brewer that I had a cat that was injuried and was bringing the cat into Abby to be checked.

When I got to Abby Pet Hospital Dr. Brewer had told me maybe this little guy should be put down. I didn't want to hear that. So I asked Dr. Brewer what can we do for him now.  Before we take the step in putting him down. Dr. Brewer looked at me like I was crazy.  Dr. Brewer then told me now that the kitten is feral we will have to put him under to take a X-Ray of his leg.  So I waitted for three hours wounding what was going to happen to this poor little guy. When the X-Ray came back.  I went into the room with Dr. Brewer.  She then began to tell me the choices that I had with this kitten. The kitten didnt seem to be in any pain. That was good and he had feeling in the leg still.  But the leg couldn't be fixed due to the break. But that he could have the leg removed. Or he could be placed into a home that could care for him and he would have to be a inside cat. But that if he tore the skin off the leg that it would have to be removed. Or the worse thing I could hear was we could put him as Dr. Brewer said "send him to kitten heaven"  All of a sudden one of the staff at Abby came into the room. She began to tell Dr. Brewer that one of the other staff personnal at Abby would like to have the kitten. For she only takens in misfits.  Dr. Brewer looked at me and told me that isn't a bad idea. The staff person that wanted this kitten had went home for the day. So I took the kitten home with me. Until I could talk to this staff person on Monday to see if she will adpot Milo.  I will update you on Milo at that time.
