On the Road

From http://nathanwinograd.blogspot.com

Our director traveled across the country trying to reform animal shelters, offering alternatives to killing, and telling the story of hope embodied in the No Kill philosophy. He found an animal sheltering system in crisis--filthy conditions, cruel treatment, and directors who found it easier to kill than do what is necessary to stop it. But he also found hope. And it is that hope that will pave the way for a No Kill nation.

(Please note: The photographs are very graphic and very disturbing.)

Subject: I need your help

I have found a semi-feral kitten/cat about 6 months old that was living in a busy highway interchange tree. He was there for about 3 weeks that I know of. I need someone to rescue him for me and give him a home. My dogs will kill him if they get close to him being a new cat and all. Please tell me if you can help me or anyone close to Fort Worth that can help me. I can't keep this cat and I won't take him to the shelter.

Thank you,
Melissa

Message From The CareTaker Of Ghost The Feral Cat In Need Of Medical Attention

March 20, 2008

Dear Feral Paws Rescue,

Please thank everyone for me!  I'm actually hoping to move to Vallejo by end of year (with ALL my ferals).  I have the loan of a drop trap I am picking up tonite.  Ghost has stopped coming to my porch to eat and sleep but is still in the yard.  I saw him again this morning.  I think he has found a less accessible part of the back yard to hide in.  Not knowing his regular hangout, and not being able to tempt him with food will make it tricky but I am determined to nab him.  I do plan to contact Actors and Others and Lifeline for help but kinda need to know exactly what is going on with Ghost first.  He definitely has to be shaved and that means keeping him in my bathroom for awhile..he can't run around outside naked!

I took a pic of Ghost last night:

This message has been sent to a number of folks in
the rescue community.  However, I asked the lady
who sent the original message, and whose yard the
cat keeps frequenting, whether or not the matter had
been resolved.  She said folks have given her suggestions
for trapping "Ghost" and offered the loan of a drop trap.
But then she said, "I'd hate to trap him knowing I don't
have any funds to get him to a vet, and he needs help."

Do you know of any vet in the N. Hollywood area that
would see this kitty on a "low income" basis?  Bonita
has no funds, and mine are very limited, as I recently
lost my job too.  But the kitty doesn't deserve to suffer,
and I would do what I can.

Her personal vet's name is listed at the bottom of her
plea as well.  Your assistance would be greatly
appreciated....especially by "Ghost!"

Thank you,

HELP! - Feral Cat w/Stick Stuck in Roof of Mouth -
Need Help Trapping and DONATIONS for Vet Care ASAP

Ghost showed up in my backyard a week ago.  He had a
stick stuck in the roof of his mouth, and I have tried every
trapping trick in the book to get him, but he is trap savvy.
He somehow got the stick out, but I'm sure part of it is still
in there because he is drooling profusely and not eating
very much.  I am in a panic, because I want very much to
help this feral cat, but haven't the funds to get him medical
care, nor can I get A HOLD of him.

I am asking for help in obtaining a drop trap (which
I don't know how to use, so I'll need physical help
with that), or help in trapping him from some expert
trappers and for donations toward his medical care.

I recently posted for help for one of my own cats,
because I am completely broke since the IRS recently
garnished my wages.  I hate to go begging again,
but this poor cat does not deserve to live in pain.
The pictures are not that good since they came
from my phone camera, but it is the best I can do.
He is very skittish and bolts if he even knows
someone is looking at him.

I have a paypal account at:

Donations can be called in to the vet:

Any help will be very much appreciated.
It kills me every day to know he is in my
backyard, and I can't help him.

Advocate Alert: Help Care For Feral Cats Today!

We are posting this page on our website to help others

that are in need of help with the feral cats they care for.

We get may emails & since we in CA we are not able

to help them. Other then letting them know others to

contact in their location

Every day, phones ring off the hook

and our mailbox overflows with requests

for help.  People call panicked – often in

tears – trying to find advice about caring

for the feral cats in their lives.

We are posting this web page because we
need your help.  With the hundreds of
caregivers and millions of feral cats turning
to us each month, resources are stretched
so thin.  We just don’t have the resources
to do what we want to do for every single
person.

We do the best we can – because we know

that every single feral cat in need is valuable.

But as you can guess, it sometimes feels like

we are fighting a losing battle.

I know that the solution for each of these desperate

callers could available be in their own communities.

That's why we support Alley Cat Allies that is trying

to change policy for feral cats nationwide – and make

finding the answers to these questions easier for every

 compassionate citizen.

Of course, to truly bring about real change, we must

reach out to each and every one of the 40,000 local

governments with animal control services in the country.

And that is a big job – but not an impossible one.

I can’t do it without you. Together we can get the

word out and stop the senseless killing of innocent

 feral cats and kittens everywhere.

Thank you for your support.

Hello,  First and foremost thank you for the work you perform on

behalf of strays everywhere.

I found your site, while trying to find  non-kill shelters that are willing

to take in cats that are friendly but feral at the same time.  Apparently

there are NONE. Every shelter I call will destroy them

(our "civilized" society) because they do not like to be picked up by humans.

In the building where I currently work there are aprox. 4 female

adult cats and aprox 10 kittens.  They had been fed for the past 5-6 yrs

by some of the employees.  Now they want them GONE.  I do not want

to see them destroyed and have been trying to find somewhere to take them.

If your unable to help me in finding them a home, would you be able to assist

me locating a shelter that will take them without destroying them?

We are located in North Miami, FL., my telephone number is

 305-653-XXXX.

At this point I am surprised at the lack of sympathy even from

 the shelters I have contacted.

Please your assistance will be greatly appreciated by me and

 the cats.

P.S. We are willing to make a donation to the shelter willing

to take them.
