Thomasina lived at Avenal State Prison
at the age of three years old Thomasina
was still totally feral. Inmates and staff
began to work with him to try and tame
him. It only took a few months and staff
and inmates were able to touch him and
hold him. As time went on Thomasina
became the talk of the front enterence area to
the prison. That staff would enter the
prison at shift change. Thomasina would
lay at the front enterence gate window and
let staff make over him as they walked into
the prison. Warden Kathy Mendoza-Power
was in charge of the prison and got wind that
Thomasina was greeting staff during shift
change and ordered that Thomasina be
removed from the prison grounds. Her
reason was that Thomasina was feral and
mean. That he was unhealthy and could give
staff something in touching him. Warden
Kathy Mendoza-Powers wanted him put down.
Of course we stepped in and took Thomasina
off grounds. He was seen by Kings Canyon
Veterinary Hospital and given a perfect clean
bill of health.
There was nothing wrong with him as Warden
Kathy Mendoza-Powers stated to staff touching
him. While entering the prison. He was placed into
a foster care home. Until he could be placed into a
loving home. But like most of our foster care homes
They fell in love with him. Thomasina never left his
foster care home. We get so many updates on Thomasina
he now lives on a ranch and is a inside/outside cat. He comes
inside at night. He has been mircochiped, nutered, right ear tipped.
During the day he goes next door to the house that has several
childern and plays with the childern at night he comes home
like clock work to come inside. The neighbors next door tell
the foster care family that Thomasina has given them so much joy
when he comes over to play with the kids.
