We have to hand it to Warden Kathy Mendoza-Powers for her real mess at Avenal State Prison! Not only did she make a mess out of the successful cat program that was working at Avenal State Prison for the past seven years! That past Wardens at Avenal State Prison supported and felt the cat program was successful. Warden Kathy Mendoza-Powers has made a real mess out of dealing with the over crowed prison inmates. Staff and Inmates together were happy to see her leave the postion of Warden of Avenal State Prison In April 2007! At her going away party only a handful of staff were present! The cat program she stopped in February of 2006! Has caused the cat population to grow at a faster rate. But she wouldn't work with Feral Paws Rescue Group, PETA, Alley Cats, Letter from all over the world asking for the cat program to be reinstated. Warden Kathy Mendoza-Powers refused to listen to anyone. The reasons she gave to stop the cat program was proof of just more lies from Warden Kathy Mendoza-Powers! In her letters sent out to why she stopped the cat program we could show written proof of her lies about the cat program. But all of us at Feral Paws Rescue Group are happy to say is that any cat trapped at Avenal State Prison aren't being KILLED like Warden Kathy Mendoza-Powers wanted. But are being turned over to volunteers of Feral Paws Rescue Group. The only cats being put down are the ones that have been hurt during trapping due to the lack of trainning in the personal at Avenal State Prison doing the trapping. Our volunteer vets did every thing they could to save these cats. But the damaged to these cats our vets just couldn't save them. We kept calling Warden Kathy Mendoza-Powers over and over about the injuired cats. But she didn't want to stop the unhuman trapping that taken place at Avenal State Prison.
Another Warden Gone WARDEN LONNIE WATSON

August, 2007 Here we go again Another New Warden at Avenal State Prison This makes a total of three new wardens that have came to Avenal State Prison since Warden Kathy Mendoza-Powers has left Avenal. The prison has been put in such a mess when Warden Kathy Mendoza-Powers was at Avenal State Prison. That all other new wardens just dont stick around to try and clean up the mess Warden Kathy Mendoza-Powers has left Avenal State Prison in. The newest Warden is now Lonnie Watson. He was retired from Avenal State Prison and has came back out of retirement to be Warden (A) until they can find a full time replacement. So how long he will be around is anyones guess at this point. Then
Now again we are dealing with another new Warden at Avenal State Prison "Warden Dan Sedley" sorry no photo as of yet but will update when we get a photo. Warden Dan Sedley took over as Warden in July of 2007. But we are understanding he doesn't plan to stay long in that postion either. Warden Dan Sedley was put into this postion due to his rank at Avenal State Prison. He was a A.W. at Avenal State Prison. He was also part of the past chain of command of the Avenal State Prison Cat Program in the past. So he has a plus that other Wardens at Avenal State Prison didn't have. Warden Dan Sedley was part of the cat program and worked with the staff volunteers. In over seeing the cat program at Avenal State Prison. Now the outside agency's Peta, Alley Cats, Feral Paws Rescue Group and etc.. will be working on the cat program dealing with the new Warden Dan Sedley! How far we get with him is a question! Depending on really how long he last at Avenal State Prison as the New Warden! UPDATE: Warden Dan Sedley only lasted a Month at Avenal State Prison! Another Warden Gone!!!!!!!!!
Dear Feral Paws Rescue,
This is also the very reason the pets for prisoners started. These people (most of them) have no one who cares for them,no one who tries to build them up and give them conditional love. This pet program has really reached many, many people who have never known the kind of life style the average person has. This program has taught responsibility, respect for life, and has,for the first time, given them a reason for living.
"My God, what is happening to the inmates?" What shape are the feral cats in ? That are still at the prison? You have reminded me of this many times with all this bad press about the cats in the past and now in the present under the control of Warden Kathy Mendoza-Powers. Now we are hearing about the treatment of the Inmates under the control of Warden Kathy Mendoza-Powers.
Now you must know that I'm not too sympathetic to law breakers, however I do feel they need to be treated humanely Inmates or cats! Thank you for all you do in this area. Well, we can only hope for the best for the cats, inmates and the personnel that work at the prison.
